Entrepreneur Introductions: 7 Easy Steps to People Wanting to Hear More
Elevator speeches are usually someone's first impression of you so it pays to have one that leaves people with a positive impression of you and your business.
Connect
Connect with the person you're talking to. Look them in the eye, smile and let them know you're really seeing them. You can have an amazing elevator speech but if you don't bother to connect, its energy is diminished because you're not really present.
Brief
Keep it short and to the point. No more than two sentences. Can you imagine going all the way to the top of the Sears tower listening non-stop to someone say what they do?
WIFM
Remember most of us are tuned into WIFM - What's in it for me? - so the thrust of what you say should not be about you and your qualifications as much as the results of what you do or what your products do for people.
Passion
Share your passion - there is nothing more interesting than someone who really loves what they do. Especially someone who has a service you're interested in. You don't even have to tell them. Just think about it and you will convey it when you speak. Why are you in business? What makes you happy about what you do?
Suggest the How
You want them to ask you questions when you're done. An example is an elevator speech I use - "I help entrepreneurs get better results with less work so they have more time to do what they love." I find that almost everyone says to me "So how do you do that?"
Ease
Be comfortable with what you are saying. Like everything else about your business, this is your self expression so make sure the shoes fit you!
Play
Practice and have fun with it. See how people react and whether the conversation flows into them asking you for more. If not, play with it and see what seems to get you the response you want. It's also good to practice so that what you say comes out naturally and not like you are repeating something you're reading.
Results for you?
Potential customers will want to know more about you and your services and products at that first handshake.
